120ft Redwood Tree Falls Onto Redding Building & Street

A massive 120ft Redwood tree came crashing down on a building in the 1300 block of Oregon street Thursday night.
The building's owner, Chet Sunde, says law enforcement called him about 9:30 p.m. Thursday night to tell him the tree had fallen on top of the structure where he practices clinical psychology.
Sunde told KRCR News Channel 7 his building is one of the oldest structures in Redding, saying, "It was built back in 1895."
Luckily, no one was inside the structure when the Redwood slammed onto the roofs home and fell onto Shasta Street.
The building sustained significant damage. Windows were shattered, cracks lined the walls and water had seeped through from the rain. Workers were already making repairs Friday night.
We've yet to confirm the tree's age, but people we caught up with on the scene say the tree's stump was rotted and the wet weather and heavy winds likely led to its collapse.
Crews spent all day Friday removing the tree. KRCR News Channel 7 obtained aerial photos from CHP of two massive trucks cleaning up the mess.
Chet Sunde's sister-in-law, Kerry Loring told us, "One piece of the tree weighed about 3000 pounds."
Aside from being a psychologist's office, the building is also used by the Grindstone Club, which is a cigar club. Members were lighting up stogies Friday night as the mess was cleaned up.
No word yet on the damage estimate. Stay with us as we learn new details.
