CORNING, Calif. -

Corning Police officers responded to shots fired at an apartment on the 1200 block of South Street Tuesday evening. When they arrived at the apartment, they found the front door open and an 18-year-old man with two gunshot wounds in his back.

The victim, Billy Thamvongkham of Corning, was air lifted to Enloe Medical Center and is in critical condition.

Neighbors said they heard shots and heard a vehicle leaving the scene.

Officers said they have no description of the suspect or the car but Corning Police Chief Don Atkin said that it appeared that the suspect(s) kicked the front door in and shot the victim while he was laying or sitting on the couch.

Atkin said that nothing was missing from the apartment indicating that it was not a robbery. He said that it is unknown whether the attack was gang related.

The incident is currently under investigation.
