ANDERSON, Calif. -

A two-year-old girl, who was found unresponsive in an above-ground pool Friday night, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to the Shasta County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the 15000 block of Cloverdale Road at about 8:40 p.m. They said the two-year-old was found floating in the pool by a nine-year-old boy during a family barbecue event.

Deputies said the young girl was out of sight from the parents for about ten-minutes.

CPR was administered by family members until medical personnel arrived.

The two-year-old was transported to Mercy Medical Center. Medical personnel were unable to revive her.

At this time, the name of the child is not being released.

A Shasta County Ordinance states that any sort of swimming pool, no matter the size or depth, requires a five-foot fence with a locking gate surrounding the pool for safety purposes.

Detectives will continue to investigate. They will file a report with the district attorney's office, who will then determine whether or not charges will be filed in the case.
