HAPPY CAMP, Calif. -

A Siskiyou County man was arrested and is facing charges for attempted murder after he tried to shoot a woman in the head.

It happened Friday when deputies responded to a report of a burglary and assault on Applegate Drive in Happy Camp.

The victim told deputies that 38-year-old Adam Butterworth and 40-year-old Mike Butterworth had allegedly taken marijuana from the property the night before. When the victim asked for payment for the loss, they refused to leave.

The brothers returned the next day and that's when Mike allegedly hit the victim in the head with a garden tool, and his brother Adam swung a knife at the victim. Both brothers were arrested and booked into Siskiyou County Jail but posted twenty-five thousand dollar bail each.

The next morning deputies responded to a report of gun shots fired at the same property on Applegate Drive. The victim told deputies that she heard Adam yelling that he was back in town and was going to kill someone. Adam allegedly walked up the driveway, pointed a gun at the her head, and fired one round of shots.

Adam was booked into Siskiyou County Jail and is currently being held without bail.

When deputies searched Adam's home they found 24 marijuana plants, 20 pounds of processed marijuana, .25 grams of methamphetamine, and multiple firearms. The case is still being investigated.
