Traffic was slowed on Interstate 5 north just before the Knighton Road exit in Redding after a single vehicle accident.
The California Highway Patrol said the accident was reported around 12:45 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Reports of a reckless driver were first reported to CHP prior to the accident.
According to witnesses a black 2002 Nissan Pathfinder was driving recklessly, swerving in and out of traffic, reaching speeds of 90 miles per hour and attempting to run vehicles off the road.
A CHP official later identified the driver to be 42 year-old Mayra Merrifield, believed to be out of Covelo, California.
Officials said while Merrifield was driving she somehow lost control of the vehicle.
The SUV became airborne and slammed into an embankment, flipping on it's side.
Witnesses told officers after the accident Merrifield jumped on top of her car and started flapping her arms like a bird.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
Merrifield was taken to Mercy Medical Center with unknown injuries.
Officers said she will most likely be charged with reckless driving.
Whether or not Merrifield was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is also being investigated.
