Today marks one of the holiest days on the Christian calendar, Good Friday.
Services are being held throughout the Northstate in celebration of Good Friday, and Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chico is no exception.
During Good Friday, believers honor the crucifixion of the Son of God.
A somber service, the church covered the crosses on its altar with black clothes, symbolizing the death of Jesus Christ.
Some services lasted until three o'clock; a significant time in which it is believed that Christ died.
"It is a good day because it is the day that Christ died on the cross for our sins," Reverend Donald Jordan said. "So this is a good day, a somber day, a reflective day, a day of meditation to ponder the great love of God in Christ Jesus Our Lord."
Holy Week culminates on Easter Sunday when believers say that Christ rose from the dead to atone for man's sins.
