Chico Police are investigating a series of stabbings around the city over the past week.
There have been five different stabbings in Chico since Wednesday, several of which have been random.
One of the stabbings took place around 9:45 on Tuesday night near the 1500 block of East Ave. when, according to police, a white man in his 30s drove past a 30-year-old man and threw something at him.
Investigators said they believe the driver turned back around, got out of his car and stabbed the man.
A few hours later, another stabbing occurred.
Thomas Lake, 33, told police he was initially attacked by the victim, who had a folding blade knife, near the 200 block of Valambrossa Ave. When attacked, Lake said he took the knife and stabbed his attacker.
Last week, there were two separate stabbings where a group of people got out of their car and stabbed someone on the street.
One of those stabbings was near the Chico High School parking lot and the other was near Rancheria Road. Chico Police say that they still don't know whether or not the two stabbings were related.
"We think and believe that there is more to the story of each of these stabbings," said Lt. Mike O'Brien of the Chico Police Dept. "In some cases, the victims are not willing to go on after the investigative process as far to prosecute and identify a suspect."
Chico Police also said that the victims are not speaking with investigators, making the investigation very difficult.
As for Thomas Lake, he is being held at the Butte County Jail and is being charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
Chico Police asks that if you have any information about any of the stabbings to please call them.
