CHICO, Calif. -

When the teacher gave the cue, students at Sierra View Elementary School in Chico ducked under their desks, making sure that all their limbs were covered by their desktop. After the emergency, students walked outside the classroom to ensure that everyone was accounted for.

Students Participate in California Shakeout

This was a nationwide drill called "The Great Shakeout," an event put together by FEMA, the University of Southern California, USGS and others to prepare people all over the country on what to do should an earthquake occur.

Sierra View Elementary students were only some of the over 20,000 people in counties all over the North State pledged to participate in the Great California Shakeout earthquake drill on Oct. 18 at 10:18 a.m.
