College Student Suffering Life Threatening Injuries After Being Hit by Car, Driver Arrested

A 21 year-old college student is in the hospital after being hit by a 20 year-old alleged DUI driver.

Chico Police say 20 year-old Matthew Lambert was arrested early Saturday morning for DUI after hitting 21 year-old Brandon Fisher.

Police say Fisher is a CSUC student from Deer Valley, California and Lambert is a student at Butte College.

According to reports the collision happened at the intersection of Walnut St. and W. 1st St after Fisher reportedly walked into the street.

Officers say alcohol might've been a factor.

Officers say they arrived within seconds of the initial 911 call and found Fischer lying on the curb.

He was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

Officers say Lambert was driving a 2007 Chevrolet pickup and immediately pulled into the parking lot of a nearby business.

Lambert was subsequently arrested for alleged misdemeanor DUI.

Police say their preliminary investigation indicates Fisher walked into the roadway in front of the pickup. The collision is being investigated by members of the Major Accident Investigation Team.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who was with Mr. Fisher prior to the collision is asked to contact Officer Travis Johnson or Chico Police.
