CHICO, Calif. -

Caltrans said on Wed. that they are on schedule with their plan to create an auxiliary lane on Highway 99 to relieve traffic. Phase two of construction is slated to begin after Thanksgiving.

Caltrans said that the construction will be on the outer part of the road, bringing drivers closer to the middle of the road while construction is occurring.

They also mentioned that they plan on building a median between northbound and southbound traffic and they will build sound walls along the sides of the highway to reduce noise pollution for nearby homes.

The project is estimated to cost $37.9 million dollars once it is completed. Construction should be finished by fall of 2013.
