A Corning man was arrested Tuesday night, accused of killing his own brother. Clifford Palmer, age 46, is held on $1 million bail on a murder charge.
Tehama County Sheriff's deputies were called to Palmer's home at 23132 Flournoy Avenue in Corning at 5:35 p.m.. They found Fermin "Mitch" Alberro, age 40 of Corning, unconscious and not breathing. Deputies said he had been involved in a disturbance with his brother, Clifford Palmer. They found Alberro lying on his back in the entry of the residence. Efforts to revive Alberro were unsuccessful.
A deputy took Clifford Palmer into custody. Deputies said Palmer told them he and Alberro had been drinking throughout the day and began arguing and physically fighting. Palmer reportedly admitted to punching Alberro in the face, and he fell to the floor.
Palmer found Alberro unresponsive and called 911.
Sharon Hunt, a neighbor, has known both men since they were children.
She said even though they often fought, she's still shocked this happened. "They're an excellent family until they get to arguing and it goes to a fight. I think the fight went bad this time," Hunt said.
Hunt said Alberro often nagged Palmer and gave him a hard time.
According to Tehama County Courthouse records, both men have a history of domestic violence.
Palmer was booked into the Tehama County Jail on a murder charge. He is held on $1 million dollars bail.
