A man is dead after being shot by a Butte County deputy Thursday night in Magalia.
According to the Sheriff's Department, the same man who reported hearing gunshots fired is the same man that the deputy shot and killed.
It happened just before 8:00p.m., 50-year-old Wayne Lamar Oxley called dispatch and said he heard gunshots in the area of Bethany Circle and Wycliff Way. Oxley has been confirmed to be the brother of 2012 congressional candidate Gary Oxley.
When Deputy Chris Dineen arrived at the location, he saw Lamar Oxley pointing a gun and demanding that he surrender his weapon. Dineen drew his weapon and fired at Oxley.
Oxley was pronounced dead at the scene, Dineen was uninjured. The Butte County Officer Involved Shooting Protocol Team was sent to investigate the incident.
