Fire Destroys Family Home at Ranch for Ill Children

BIGGS, Calif. -

A house fire has caused more than $100,000 worth of damage at Max's Miracle Ranch in Biggs and home owner Molly Williams told us today that it still doesn't feel real.

"This is where all our kids, you know, were raised from the day they were born and it's more than just losing a house," Williams said. "...it's losing a whole piece of your life."

Max's Miracle Ranch, a retreat for children with life-threatening illnesses, was named after the Williams' son, Max, who had multiple heart surgeries due to a defective heart.

The family opened the ranch as a kind of amusement park for children with health problems where they have a train, animals and events. That part of the ranch is still in tact, but it is not the same with their home now gone.

The fire at the ranch was spotted by a passing driver around 2 p.m. Firefighters said that two-thirds of the house was engulfed in flames by the time they arrived on the scene.

Molly, her husband and their eight children were not home when the fire broke out. The family had left the home only a few hours prior to the fire to go to the Bay Area.

If you are interested in donating money to the Williams family, they are accepting donations via Butte Federal Credit Union. Just go in and ask to donate to the Molly Williams Account. You can also call the bank at (530) 868-5405.
