CHICO, Calif. -

Chico State University President Paul Zingg called an emergency meeting for sororities and fraternities at noon on Thursday to announce that campus Greek life would be suspended indefinitely.

The rules of the suspension include: no fraternity or sorority socials, no recruiting, no representing the national sororities or fraternities as a Chico State University chapter and the removal of Greek letters from buildings.

Zingg said there would be a re-evaluation next spring but cautioned that Greek life would have to work with campus administration through the reinstatement process.

The announcement follows several incidents involving alcohol at the school, including the recent overdose of 21-year-old Mason Sumnicht.
