CHICO,Calif -

The Greek System at Chico State University has been suspended until further notice. 21 year old Mason Sumnicht, died after trying to drink 21 shots for his 21st birthday. Sumnicht was pledging Sigma Pi fraternity.

Businesses in the area say that they expect that kids are going to buy alcohol but greek organizations should do a better job at educating students when it comes to drinking and partying.

Students at Chico state feel the same way.

" Know what you’re doing, know what you’re getting yourself into just be smart,” says Mark Stone, a student at Chico State. “Know when to say no, there’s a lot of peer pressure involved.Be smart bottom line. You’re here for a reason to get an education."

The school will start the reinstatement process for the Greek organizations at the beginning of next semester. This isn’t the first time the school has had to suspend Sorority and Fraternity activities. Chico State wants students to know that there’s serious consequences to pay when things like this happen.
