A local school teacher won a big state award. Millville Elementary School's Mindy DeSantis learned this week she has been named California's Superintendent/Principal of the Year.
While honored, DeSantis said her work is a labor of love – and she gives a lot of credit to her support staff.
"I love my job, I love my job," DeSantis said. "The kids are terrific and I'm surrounded by the best. I mean every staff member here knows our purpose here is the students and the kids and doing our best for them."
The Principal/Superintendent of the Year Award is handed out by the 'Association of California School Administrators'.
DeSantis said she was in shock when she found out that she was the regional winner.
She was nominated for the award by co-workers and staff back in January and she earned the top spot among eight other Northstate nominees before getting the statewide award.
Students at Millville Elementary say they are beaming with pride.
"I'm really happy for her," said Millville fourth-grader Olivia Poole. "She totally deserves it."
