There have been fewer crimes reported in the first two months of the year in the City of Redding than there were one year ago, however, Redding Police Chief Rob Paoletti says this doesn't say much – yet.
Along with only having two months of numbers to look at, while the overall numbers are down in seven of the nine crime-related categories, there is one category with an increase of 40 percent.
Overall, burglaries fell from 195 in January and February of 2012 to 116 in 2013.
Violent crime reports went down to 95 cases in January and February of 2013. In 2012, there were 128 cases.
The category with the 40 percent increase is motor vehicle theft. In 2012, there were 65 reported cases of motor vehicle theft in January and February. This year had 91 cases for those two months.
Paoletti said Redding citizens will have to wait for the rest of the year to truly get an idea of where the city is going in terms of crime.
