Man Arrested for Easter Sunday DUI After Crash in Front of Church

PARADISE, Calif. -

A Paradise man has been arrested for DUI after a collision in front of a church on Easter Sunday.

The collision happened Easter morning at 11:22 a.m. near CMA Church on Clark Road in Paradise.

Police said Nicholas Gioia, 26, was driving a Subaru when he drifted into oncoming traffic.  He hit a Chevrolet pickup truck head-on.  The driver of the pick-up Henry Halbach, 58 of Magalia, transported himself to Feather River Hospital for treatment of pain and bruising to his left lower leg.

Gioia was taken to Feather River Hospital for treatment of pain to his neck and hips.  

During the investigation, prescription medication and methadone was found on Gioia and in his vehicle.  Investigators said he was found to be under the influence of his prescription medication including Klonopin, Methadone, Soma and marijuana. 

He was booked into the Butte County Jail for DUI causing injury.
