ORLAND, Calif. -

A 31-year-old Orland man appeared in court Friday only to be taken into custody for something completely different.

According to the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office, Ramiro Eri Torres, Jr. came to the Glenn County Superior Court on Friday in response to an ongoing investigation of crimes he allegedly committed in Oct. 2012.

Instead, a correctional officer from the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office took him into custody on a warrant for a home invasion robbery that happened on Mar. 6, 2013.

Torres was originally booked at the Glenn County Jail in Oct. last year and was set to appear in court on Friday for the following crimes: Crimes against an elder or dependant adult, threatening to commit a violent crime, being under the influence of a controlled substance and battery on a non-cohabitating former spouse.

However, on Mar. 6, 2013, the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint from a 34-year-old female. The woman claimed that her boyfriend, 33-year-old Abraham Rangel from Orland, had been beaten and robbed.

As the story goes, at 6:30 a.m.on Mar. 6, Rangel awoke to the sounds of someone forcing open his bedroom door. He allegedly grabbed his cell phone in an attempt to call for help but was punched in the chest and his assailant took the phone. Rangel was also said to have been held down, threatened with death and then robbed of several personal items.

Detectives were sent to investigate the home invasion robbery in the 6000-block of County Road 5, which is north of Orland.

Shortly after, Torres was identified as a suspect in the investigation.

On Mar. 7, the warrant was obtained and Friday he was taken into custody.

The home invasion robbery is still under investigation but Torres, who has several aliases and two different social security numbers, was booked at the Glenn County Jail for several felonies including burglary, false imprisonment, criminal conspiracy and robbery.

His bail is set for $140,000.
