According to the California Highway Patrol 50-year-old Dennis Bryan, of Paradise, was headed westbound on Highway 299 when for unknown reasons he lost control of his van and veered off an embankment.
The accident happened just before the Buckhorn Summit.
Bryan was pinned in the van for more than an hour before crews were able to get him out.
Multiple hydraulic tools, including the "jaws of life" were used to get Bryan out.
Bryan's injuries are unknown at this time but officers on scene said he was conscious and communicating with crews during the rescue.
