Orland Police Pose as 14-Year-Old Minor to Catch Sexting Suspect
Orland native Walter Schambach, 35, has been arrested for sending sexually explicit text messages to a 14-year-old.
On Apr. 7, Orland Police officers received a report about an adult male sending messages to a 14-year-old Orland girl. After further investigation, the officers discovered that it was Walter Schambach who had been sending sexual texts and photos to the minor.
To continue the investigation, officers posed as the 14-year-old and arranged to meet Schambach at Library Park.
Schambach arrived at Library Park in Orland on Apr. 8 at the arranged time and was taken into custody at the Glenn County Jail.
Schambach was booked for arranging a meeting with a minor for the purposes of sexual contact, arranging a meeting with a minor with a prior conviction under the Sex Offender Registration Act, arriving at the arranged meeting with a minor and providing harmful materials to a minor for the purposes of seduction.
According to the Megan's Law website, Schambach is a registered sex offender whose prior offense was 'lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age.'
