MAGALIA, Calif. -

The parents of a Magalia teen who was killed in a car accident on Oct. 27 have opened up to thank the community for its sympathy and generosity.

Karen and Joe Oliver said they wanted to publicly acknowledge their community which has supported the family with flowers, cards and kind messages.

The accident that killed their 16-year-old daughter Billi Oliver also claimed the life of 17-year-old Dustin Lyle, a student at Ridgeview High School.

The two were passengers in a 2003 Acura driven by Amber West, 16, of Magalia. West is a student at Paradise High School. West was taken to Enloe Hospital for treatment where she was treated for moderate injuries.

The Oliver family said they received hundreds of bouquets of flowers, many from complete strangers.

They said they hope to plant the flowers around their home and they plan on making a memorial for Billi at the front of their driveway.
