REDDING, Calif. -

A Redding man was arrested Thursday for violating parole, but police said they have also linked him to two separate attempted robberies at Walmart in January.

Officers said this is the 14th time since 2011 that Timothy Flanagin, 35, has been arrested for violating parole.

Thursday night, a disturbance call was reported at the Hilltop Lodge in Redding. When officers arrived, they arrested Flanigan and learned that he was on parole for rape, he was a registered sex offender, and was a documented gang member with the Redding Police Department.

While searching his room at the hotel, officers found clothing that matched the description of a man who attempted to rob Walmart in January.

On January 29, officers said Flanagin tried stealing items from Walmart on Dana Dr. but was confronted by a store employee and then threatened her with a knife.

Just two days later, on January 31, officers said Flanigan was attempting to steal from Walmart again, was confronted by another employee, and brandished a knife. He fled in both incidents before police arrived.

Flanagin was booked into the Shasta County Jail for attempted robbery and parole violation.
