The Redding City Council is meeting tonight in a closed session to discuss several items including Redding Electric Utility's decision to possibly outsource some of its customer service department.
The final decision however, will not occur for a few months.
If the outsourcing occurs, seven positions would be displaced. Pat Keener, Economic Development Liaison for the City of Redding, said that many or all of these employees would be absorbed elsewhere in Redding within a 24-month time frame.
Redding Electric Utility's new call center would be in Nebraska. Keener said that its location would not have an effect on the detail or speed of service that customers would receive.
The potential outsourcing could save the city of Redding as much as $500,000 per year.
