Redding Native/Film Producer Kathleen Kennedy Premieres "Lincoln" Film at Cascade Theater

REDDING, Calif. -

The release of "Lincoln" is one of the more anticipated movie premieres of the year.  People in Redding got a sneak peek Sunday night.   Close to a thousand people attended Sunday's special showing of the film at the Cascade Theater.  Some critics are calling it this year's big Oscar contender.

"Lincoln" stars Daniel Day Lewis as the 16th president, and was directed by Steven Spielberg.  It opens at theaters across the country on Friday, November 16.

Sunday night, it opened in Redding with a bonus question and answer session with the film's producer and Northstate native Kathleen Kennedy.  Kennedy graduated from Shasta High School and her family still lives in Redding.

Tickets for the special premiere at the Cascade sold out within minutes. People were excited as they lined up for the big night.
Maryann Weston, said "We're here to see a movie that is highly anticipated, I'm excited and also to see Kathleen Kennedy.  She has had some recent changes which are exciting which is a hometown girl I wish her a lot of success and I am here for support."

Christopher Doran traveled to Redding Southern Oregon University.    "Super excited talking for weeks about it," said Doran. "We all caravaned down together."

This is the second time Kathleen Kennedy has held a special viewing for her film at the Cascade Theatre.   The other time was for "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly."

In addition to her long history of making movies with her friend Steven Spielberg, she is embarking on a new chapter in her career.

She is the new president of Lucasfilm.  The company behind Star Wars and Indiana Jones, has been sold to Disney for a reported 4 billion dollars.

As one of her first challenges in, Disney also announced plans to produce a 7th Star Wars Movie.

Kathleen Kennedy has been nominated for seven Oscars but has yet to win as a producer.  She is considered one of the most successful producers in Hollywood.

Kennedy's 62 movies include blockbusters like Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park,  Sixth Sense and Schindler's List.
