CORNING, Calif. -

Students at the Royal King Academy in Corning are learning dance technique as a mechanism to help them better themselves.

Dancing is a big part of the program and it’s a great way to keep students active and in shape. Instructor Rojelio Viramontes said dancing can also help students self esteem. On day two when we visited, the students were already hooked.

“When we started I was like, 'No this is gonna be weird I just don’t want to do it,'” said Yulisa Vargas, a student at Maywood. "And then we started doing it and it was really fun! Now I love coming to PE.”

The Royal King Academy will target different schools in the district. They will be in the district until May. The dance academy is a three year program and it is designed to exceed state standards.
