Smoking in parks and on trails could soon be banned in Redding.
Kim Niemer, Redding's Director of Community Services, who is leading the proposal, told us this ban would effect every city-owned and city-managed neighborhood and community park or trail.
She said they have surveyed 344 park goers over the last few months. Almost three-fourths of those people were in favor of a smoking-ban policy.
Niemer points out that both Anderson and Whiskeytown have effective smoking bans.
She said the recommendation will be discussed at the Community Services Advisory Commission meeting on Wednesday evening. It will then be passed along to City Council where they will debate and vote on it.
The CSAC meeting is being held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday at City Hall in the Caldwell Park Conference room.
