HAMILTON CITY, Calif. -

The Glenn County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a human body found in Stony Creek, west of Hamilton City.  The death is classified as suspicious.  His name and race are undetermined.  The remains were badly decomposed.

Three teenagers had gone swimming in Stony Creek, west of Hamilton City around 6 p.m. Friday.

Drawn to a stench near the edge of the creek they came upon a human body.  The three reported it to the Hamilton City Fire Department, who called the Sheriff’s Office.

In a shallow area of still water on the north bank, were the badly decomposing remains, of what appeared to that of an adult male whose race is unknown.

Due to darkness, the scene was guarded through out the night by members of the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team.

Investigators returned Saturday morning to process the scene for evidence.  The body was removed around 9:30 a.m.

Pending autopsy, there is no known cause of death.

The body is not identified and therefore is classified as a John Doe.

The death is highly suspicious and a body dump has yet to be ruled out.

It is also not known how long the body had been in the water.

Further information will be released as it becomes available.

Glenn County currently has no outstanding missing person reports that would match what is currently known about this decedent.
