REDDING,Calif -

The first day of spring brings beautiful flowers and with it comes allergy season. Allergies to airborne allergens affect over 50,000,000 people in America today.

If you are one of those people who suffer from allergies Dr. Ronald L. Renard, of Redding Allergy and Asthma Care, told us there are some things you can do to control your allergies.

One is to avoid pollen, stay indoors and close your windows when pollen counts are high in your area.

Another is to use air conditioner at home and in your car during times when pollen counts are high.

Dr. Renard said it is also important to remember that allergens can also be inside your home. Keeping all rooms clean to avoid mold from forming is a way to control allergens. Keep plants out of your bedroom and if you can, use a dehumidifier.

Dust mites are also a big problem for the allergy-prone. It is important to vacuum your house often and use allergy-proof covers on your bed.

"If you've been out at the soccer game with your kids or you've run the river trail or you've had a picnic in the backyard you really will see a benefit by washing your hair in the evening,” said Dr. Renard. “So that all that pollen that's been blowing around you out there doesn't go to bed with you.”

The worst months for allergies are from March through May.
