Three people escaped a house fire in Chico Saturday morning.
The fire was reported just before 8 a.m at 478 East 7th Street, near Orient Street.
Three people were living in the home, including Lynda Hernandez. She is using a wheelchair while she recovers from a November car accident.
Hernandez had been living in the home with her friend Mary Dean, and Dean's fiance Richard Jones. They were all home at the time. One of them smelled smoke and they escaped the burning home without injury.
The fire damaged the attic. Initially investigators believe it may have been caused by an electrical problem.
Sitting outside as firefighters extinguished the blaze, Hernandez was visibly upset. She was the driver in a November 20 car accident on Pentz Road in Paradise in which her husband Timothy Ramirez, 48, was killed. She is still recovering from her injuries.
