COHASSET, Calif. -

CAL FIRE in Butte County decided to do a controlled burn about 7 miles north of the town Cohasset.

The burn will take place on Oct. 29 and Oct. 30 in cooperation with Sierra Pacific Industries.

Officials said that the purpose of the burn is to enhance the ecological benefit of the lands as well as maintain the existing field.  They said it is a strategic move for future fire protection in Cohasset as well as for National Forest land and private land.

The burn will help with training about fire behavior, fire suppression and firefighting techniques.

The fire is currently 80 acres in size.
