REDDING, Calif. -

The Shasta County Coroner's Office has released the name of the man who was killed in a collision at Placer and Oregon Streets in downtown Redding.

The victim is George Sadowski, 91 of Anderson.

The crash happened just before 5 p.m. Thursday.

Redding Police said an on-duty officer saw the two vehicles collide.

Police said a blue 1996 Geo Metro, driven by Sadowski crossed Placer Street northbound on Oregon Street.  The car pulled into the path of a white 1997 Saturn.

The Saturn, driven by Lynn Kester, 59 of Redding, struck the driver's side door of the Metro, pushing the Geo up onto the sidewalk.

Sadowski was taken to Mercy Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Kester was treated for a broken right arm and side pain.

Placer Street was closed between Court Street and Oregon Street until the wreckage was cleared.
