CHICO, Calif. -

Chico police believed a 17-year-old juvenile with a warrant out for his arrest in Sacramento, locked himself into a Chico home, forcing officials into a standoff.

Chico police were first led on a foot chase with the juvenile late this morning in the area of Fourth Avenue and Warner. Police chased him into an alley, then he went inside of a home at 1436 1/2 Warner Street.

The 17-year-old is wanted for aggravated assault to greatly bodily injuries.  Authorities had the street blocked off for nearly nine hours.

Police set up a perimeter and ordered all residents on Warner Street from Fourth to Sixth Avenue to evacuate.

Chico police along with the Chico SWAT team and the bomb squad were all called out to the scene.

Officials believed the juvenile was inside of the home by himself, possibly armed with an assault rifle.

Chico Police say it was tight window for the suspect to disappear.

“We had lost sight of him for one moment and that one moment he must have eluded us outside of the perimeter," says Capt. Lori MacPhail   "It’s a very cramped residential area and he ran through an alley or a backyard and was able to escape that perimeter.”

Officers arrested the tenant, Zadkiel Kersting, for having possession of stolen property.

Chico Police say they will still be looking for the juvenile and they will announce in two weeks how much this operation cost.
