Butte County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a homicide in Chico.
A 56-year-old Chico woman is dead and Butte County Sheriff's deputies say that her son is a suspect. They found Donna Teifer dead in her Hampshire Road home around 2 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.
When Tiefer didn't show up to work Tuesday morning, her employer asked deputies to check on her at home.
Deputies said that the door was unlocked and that she had wounds on her body. Detectives learned that Tiefer had a heated exchange of words recently with her son, 29-year-old Adam Jacob. Jacob was arrested by officers.
"It was a total surprise when the detective came up to me and asked me if anything was unusual last night. I said it was quiet the night before," said neighbor Melisse Boyd, who was interviewed by sheriff's deputies.
The deputies are not releasing how Tiefer was killed or what weapon was used. An autopsy is slated to happen this week.
Jacob is being held on $1 million bail.
