The search is on for a hit and run driver who killed a bicyclist in Durham.
The collision happened Wednesday afternoon around 3 p.m. near Midway and Roble Roads.
Thursday afternoon, the CHP released a surveillance image of a "vehicle of interest" that may have been involved in the deadly collision. The vehicle is a silver 2003-2007 Chevy 1/2 ton Silverado X-tra cab.
The CHP said the driver of the vehicle was northbound, when it came up behind the two bicyclists who were northbound in the bike lane Wednesday afternoon.
The vehicle drifted into the bike lane and hit the bicyclist from behind. The grey vehicle sped away without stopping.
The bicyclist Rick Magee, 61 of Durham, was thrown from his mountain bike. He died at the hospital a few hours later.
The other bicyclist told KRCR News Channel 7 he and Magee were just taking a quick ride on a beautiful afternoon. He said he was riding in front of Magee and heard a loud noise behind him.
He then saw Rick fly through the air landing in front of him on the pavement. The driver accelerated away from the scene. The witness said it appeared to be a large, silver vehicle. He said he didn't get a good look at the vehicle or license plate because he was focused on his friend lying injured on the pavement.
The suspect's vehicle likely has damage to the right front of the vehicle.
If you have information about the vehicle that left the scene, contact the CHP at (530) 879-1999.
Magee's friend of nearly four decades said he rode his bicycle every day.
