Christopher Duncan,31, of Burney was killed Wednesday morning in eastern Shasta County after his pickup truck collided head-on with a logging truck.
It happened around 9:30 a.m. on rain-slicked Highway 299E near Windy Point Road in the Montgomery Creek area.
The road was closed while emergency crews responded. By mid-morning, one lane of traffic was being escorted through the area by the CHP.
CHP officers said the logging truck was westbound toward Redding on Highway 299, and the pickup truck had been headed eastbound toward Burney.
A witness and the logging truck driver told investigators the pickup truck crossed the center line into the path of the oncoming logging truck. After the collision, the logging truck ran off the road into a ditch. It was not carrying a load at the time.
Duncan was pronounced dead at the scene.
