Rescued Snowmobilers & Thor the Rescuer
INSKIP, Calif. -

Thursday morning Butte County Search and Rescue launched a search for two snowmobilers reported missing Wednesday.

Fortunately the story had a happy ending.  The missing snowmobilers were found safe Thursday morning around 11:30 a.m.. Tyler Marr, 19, and Shaylee Heinke, 17, both of Magalia, were not injured.

The man who found them has become somewhat of a local legend.  Thor Miller lives in Stirling City, and often heads out into the snowy landscape to search for people who go missing in the rugged area around Inskip.

Butte County Search and Rescue was called in Thursday morning to help.  But before they could find the missing pair, Thor had already tracked them down and the search was called off.

The Butte County Sheriff's Office said a group of six people had been out snowmobiling in the Inskip area Wednesday.  But Marr and Heinke became separated from the group and went missing.  The other four and their families searched for the missing pair but failed to locate them.

Thursday morning, volunteers with Butte County Search and Rescue packed up snowmobiles and gear at their headquarters in Chico before heading up to the search area.

Afterward, a smiling Heinke called Thor "her hero."

Reporter Jerry Olenyn talked with Thor and the two teens and will have the story of their rescue tonight on KRCR News Channel 7.
