Vehicle Hits Student Near School

HAPPY VALLEY, Calif. -

Canyon Road in Happy Valley is partially blocked after a vehicle hit a student near North Valley School and Victor Youth Services l in Shasta County.

The collision was reported around 9:40 a.m. Tuesday on Canyon Road near China Gulch Road, south of Redding.

A KRCR News Channel 7 crew at the scene said a couple driving a white Oldsmobile struck the student.

Happy Valley Fire Department and the CHP responded to the scene.  The victim was taken to the trauma unit at Mercy Medical Center.   The CHP confirmed the victim is a student at the school but the name of the student was not released.

A CHP officer on the scene said the student suffered a fractured leg, it's unknown at this time if he suffered any head injuries.

According to witnesses on the scene the student was running along the side of the road and ran in front of the car for unknown reasons.

Traffic was reduced to one lane.
