Year-Round Farmer's Market Comes to Tehama County
Tehama County is getting ready for one of the North State's first year-round farmer's markets. Frontier Village Certified Farmer’s Market has been in the works for about two years and now the community is excited for the very market this Saturday.
It is sponsored by Slow Food Shasta Cascade and EBT will be accepted. It will be located in the Frontier Village, on Antelope Blvd across from the Tehama District Fairgrounds.
Market manager Sandy Burkett is one of the people who is spearheading the project. She says the farmer’s market will showcase Tehama county’s rich agriculture and will help with the county’s plan to be more marketable.
So far there are 20 vendors signed up, among them a juicing booth as well as a booth for specialty meats. Starts Sat., Oct. 6 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Cassie Freeman works at the local Red Bluff grocery store, Wholesome Goods, which specializes in selling local, organic foods.
She said the store is looking forward to getting some of it’s goods from the farmer’s market and believes it is important to buy locally rather than support “big box retailers.”
