Bicyclist suffers major injuries after being hit by pickup

Bicyclist suffers major injuries after being struck by vehicle
ANDERSON, Calif. -

A bicyclist was sent to the hospital with major injuries Monday night after being hit by a pickup truck on the north side of Anderson.

The collision happened around 10 p.m. on Highway 273 near Latona Road.

CHP said the bicyclist was a 34-year-old Anderson man.  His name was not immediately released.

Officers said the man was not wearing a helmet and suffered major injuries after being hit by the blue pickup truck.  The collision blocked one lane of southbound Highway 273.

Officers added, the man was not wearing reflective clothing or lighting to be seen on the dark highway.

The pickup had major front end damage and a broken windshield where the bicyclist was hit.

The victim was taken to Mercy Medical Center.  The driver's name was not immediately released, and was not arrested.
