Bike thief puts the brakes on 6-year-old's BMX ambitions
A six-year-old boy's prized possession was taken out of his family's mini-van Monday morning in Paradise.
Jude Patterson is an accomplished BMX racer. He's won dozens of titles including a national one.
When he woke Monday morning, he noticed that his bike was stolen from him. A bike valued at $2,000.
Patterson discovered at an early age he wanted to race BMX bikes competitively and professionally.
"You get to ride laps and you get to ride your hardest," said Jude Patterson.
Jude is off to a great start. His room has many trophies, nearly 100 titles flooding his bedroom dresser. Some are even as tall as him.
When he won those titles Jude was riding his $2,000 custom bike. It had a red frame and blue-and-white wheels.
"It helps me ride my hardest on the track," said Jude Patterson.
Monday morning, his bike was stolen from his mother's mini-van.
"My mom woke me up and she told me my bike got stolen," said Patterson.
Ingrid Patterson, who is Jude's mother, found the back door to her mini-van open after they heard a knock on their front door around 7 a.m. She didn't answer the door, but saw that her son's bike was gone.
"My bike got stolen as well, but it's not anything compared to what his bike is," said Ingrid Patterson . "We can't replace it."
"We've put everything we have to build it up, to make it the kind of bike it is," continued Ingrid. "He competes nationally."
Jude plans to compete for another national title in January in Reno. That is if he ever gets his bike back.
"Without a bike he's going to drop out of the top ten," said Ingrid Patterson. "If he can't race, he loses his points and his number which is important to little BMX riders.
The Pattersons are asking for your help. If you know anything about where Jude's bike might be you're asked to call the Paradise police department at (530) 872-6241.
