Burned body has ties to Chico, New York, Russia

WILLOWS, Calif. -

Investigators have released new information about the body found burned in a Glenn County orchard in late May.

Analysis of the victim's fingerprints and dental work confirmed he is Marat Magdeev, 21 of Chico.  According to a news release from the Glenn County Sheriff's Office, Magdeev was born in Russia and has no known ties to Glenn County.

The name was not released until Magdeev's family was notified Tuesday night in Brooklyn, New York.

Glenn County sheriff's detectives have coordinated with allied agencies, such as the Chico Police Department.   According to Glenn County investigators, a motive has not been established and it is still unknown where Magdeev was killed.  They said indications are his death most likely occurred at another location and his body was dumped south of Hamilton City.  

An exact cause of death is pending the results of toxicology testing.  

Magdeev's body was found on Saturday, May 24 in a walnut orchard east of Highway 45 near Hamilton City.  The body had been burned and was decomposing on the Billiou Ranch when it was found by a ranch worker.
