Bystander injured by bullet after a fight in downtown Chico

CHICO, Calif. -

Police responded to a violent incident in which a bystander was injured in downtown Chico early Saturday.

It happened around 2 a.m. in the 100 block of Broadway, near 2nd Street.  Police responded to a report of a man with a gun.

Officers found a 20-year-old Corning resident suffering from leg injuries.  Investigators say he'd been hit with a bullet or bullet fragments.

The victim was sent to Enloe Medical Center with minor injuries.  Witnesses said there were two groups of people involved in a fight when someone fired a shot from a handgun.

They all fled before officers arrived.  The victim was not involved in the fight.   As of Saturday night no arrests had been made.  The incident remains under investigation.
