REDDING,Calif. -

CAL FIRE said the dry weather this year has kept them busier than ever. CAL FIRE has had to increase staff in order to keep up with the fires this winter season.

Since Nov. 1 CAL FIRE has responded to 104 wildland fire related responses, which include fires, false alarms and smoke checks.

CAL FIRE has also responded to 51 structure fire related responses. Several of those incidents were caused by discarded ashes. And since the beginning of 2014, CAL FIRE has already dispatched 207 calls for service in Shasta County.

“We've seen an increase in some of the escaped debris burns some of the other fire activity has been due to improperly discarded ashes," said Cheryl Buliavac, communication operator at CAL FIRE.

CAL FIRE encourages people to maintain their defensible space clearance which might involve removing fuels around structures.
