Caltrans celebrates newly open lanes on Highway 70
After a year and half of work, Caltrans is celebrating the completion of new passing lanes on Highway 70 in Oroville.
Elected officials and Caltrans representatives celebrated on Wednesday morning with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The passing lanes start north of Cox Lane and go 2.5 miles south to East Gridley Road.
The project also includes new traffic lights and new left turn lanes. Roughly 13,000 people drive through the stretch of road and Caltrans said the improvements will make traveling a lot easier for drivers.
"It provides passing lanes in both directions of great enough length to actually be useful to the motorist,” said Jody Jones.
The project cost around $16.3 million. There are plans in the works to make the entire highway four lanes.
