OROVILLE, Calif. -

Cell phone customers in Oroville and Paradise have lost service due to a severed fiber optic line.

Alex Carey, AT&T Director of Communications and News Relations, said the fiber cut, which occurred late Wednesday afternoon, has affected four of the company's cell sites in Oroville and the surrounding areas.  It is  causing wireless service degradation and/or interruptions.

"Our engineers are currently deployed on the ground and focused on securing a solution," said Carey in an email.  "We apologize to our customers for any inconvenience."

As of noon Thursday, there was no estimated time for the problem to be resolved.
