Chico mayor Scott Gruendl has been cited for unsafe operation of a vehicle.
According to court records, Gruendl was clocked going 102 mph in a 65 mph zone on Highway 99.
"I have never had anything like that happen and it requires a court appearance. I take responsibility for it and will accept any penalty accordingly," said Gruendl Friday via text message.
He will be arraigned on March 27.
According to California law, a first time conviction of speeding in excess of 100 mph could result in a $500 fine and a loss of one's driver license for 30 days.
"I did not disclose to the officer my role nor do I expect any special consideration," Gruendle said.
