Chico State students participate in 'Day of Service'
CHICO, Calif. -

Chico State students Sunday joined together for a "Day of Service" around the community.

Incoming students and volunteers kicked things off this morning at the Bell Memorial Union on campus, where they registered to help out with a clean up effort around Chico.

From there they spread out into local parks and around town to pick up trash and clear debris.

It's all part of the "Be Chico" campaign, which aims to instill a sense of community in Chico State students.

"It's really just to bring everybody together to remember that we all live here in the same town and to welcome the new students and transfer students in," says Elisa Trimboli, CAVE Outreach Manager. "And also for the community, just to show them how to 'Be Chico' and then for the students to learn what that means."

Sunday's "Day of Service" was the final event in this week's "Wildcat Welcome," with school slated to start Monday.
