After a 34-year career and five years as Chico's fire chief, Jim Beery is hanging up his helmet.
Beery announced his retirement last Wednesday, saying that he wanted to spend more time with his daughter.
His career began in Denver and he worked his way to Portland before receiving his "dream job" of being Chico's fire chief.
Rumors in Chico have been circulating of Beery's retirement coming early due to budget cuts but Beery said the rumors were not true.
He said that after his wife's passing a year and a half ago, he felt that he needed to spend more time with his daughter.
