REDDING, Calif. -

A Shasta County man accused of severely injuring a woman when he threw a coffee mug during a road rage incident was arraigned Monday.

Teddy Robertson was formally charged with assault and elder abuse but did not enter a plea.

Officers say that Robertson threw a coffee mug at a vehicle that cut him off on Interstate 5 in Redding in April.

That mug hit Joann Lambrecht-Vester, 66, in the face, cutting her nose and causing severe bleeding. She suffered a heart attack that left her in a coma for nearly two weeks.

Lambrecht-Vester had undergone heart surgery a few weeks earlier and was on blood thinners.

Robertson will be back in court July 14th when he's expected to enter a plea.
